In simple words recruitment is a process that companies and organisations follow to identify, attract and hire the best from the pool of applicants. Recruitment is a rigorous process, it requires time and work force. Recruitment is important for both hirers and job seekers.
An ideal recruitment process is carried out in phases rather than conducting a simple one time task. Recruitment processes all over India or World adhere to certain rules and policies with certain goals.
Most of the time recruitment processes are similar, chances of them changing retrospectively is quite low as that poses a series of issues yet it is possible.
Following are the steps that companies generally follow during recruitment:
Recruitment begins with the identification of vacancies and the need of hiring new talent. Once the need of new talent is identified the HR or Administrative head of a company is supposed to lay out a job description that mentions the details such as skills, experience required, and compensation provided for an applicant to apply. After which a proper plan mentioning budget and timelines is made.
“Advertisement” is pretty important as it helps in attracting potential candidates. Companies and organisations do so by listing jobs on their websites, social media and platforms like Linkedin, Glassdoor, Naukri.com and other famous hiring platforms. Other than this companies work with recruitment agencies to seek potential candidates and applicants for the job.
Resume screening is a process where resumes are analyzed for relatable skills and experiences. After this some initial interviews are conducted which can be either telephonic or virtual to understand basic compatibility. This makes it easier for the organising team to narrow down the large pool of candidates.
Recent times show that technology has become an important part of recruitment processes all over the globe. With great advancements in the field of tech it has become easier for HR’s to conduct processes like resume screening. HR and recruitment professionals use technology like ATS to screen resumes, Google meet and Zoom help hirers to conduct easy one on one interviews with candidates.
After screening and narrowing down the large pool of candidates, Hirers conduct Tests to assess candidates on their skills. These tests are about their soft skills as well as their competency in the skills mentioned in the job description(coding tests, case studies).
For soft skills hirers conduct Psychometric tests to judge their personality traits, cognitive abilities and emotional intelligence. Similarly background checks are run to verify education credentials, previous employment and references.
Job offer is the next step to selection which is also a part of recruitment. Negotiation is made based on the market rates and compensation.
A follow up message is important for both candidates who are selected and not selected as it gives them a sense of closure. Companies should provide feedback and be open to feedback to make possible amendments in future and perform better.
Onboarding is the aftermath of recruitment and selection. Selected candidates are officially introduced and made comfortable to the company culture. Onboarding involves training, necessary paperwork, introduction and orientation for the freshly hired talent.
For an organisation, recruitment holds great importance as it defines the future of the Organisation. It ensures stability and growth with inclusion of new talent.
